White House mulls SEC commish pic

The White House has drafted a shortlist of candidates to fill empty slots at the Securities and Exchange Commission, according to The Wall Street Journal.

The SEC has been operating with three Republican commissioners since the departure of two Democrats.

No more than 3 of the commissioners can belong to the same political party.

Possible democratic replacements include lawyer Luis Aguilar and Elisse Walter, a regulator with the SEC.

The post of Republican commissioner is expected to be vacated this summer when the current commissioner Paul Atkins expires.

Mr. Atkins, who is expected not to repeat his term, has served with the Securities and Exchange Commission for six years.

Securities lawyers Steven Guynn, Douglas Cox and Stuart Kaswell are potential replacements, as well as Troy Paredes, a law professor at Washington University, St. Louis, sources told the Journal.
