ACLI elects MetLife CEO C. Robert Henrikson as its chairman

Insurance industry association also selects rest of board members for 2010 and chooses Genworth’s CEO as chairman-elect

The American Council of Life Insurers has elected C. Robert Henrikson, chairman and chief executive of MetLife Inc., as its 2010 chairman.

The group, which represents the life insurance industry, made the selection at its annual meeting today in Chicago.

Mr. Henrikson replaces Patrick S. Baird, president and chief executive of Aegon USA LLC.

The ACLI also selected the rest of its board members for 2010 today. They are John D. Johns, chairman and chief executive of Protective Life Corp; Eric T. Jones, chairman and chief executive of TIAA-CREF Life Insurance Co.; Patrick A. Mannion, chairman and chief executive of Unity Mutual Life Insurance Co.; James T. Morris, chairman and chief executive of Pacific Life Insurance Co; Thomas R. Watjen, chief executive of Unum Group; W. Weldon Wilson, chief executive of Swiss Re Life & Health America Inc.; Larry D. Zimpleman, chief executive of Principal Financial Group Inc.; and Edward J. Zore, chairman and chief executive of The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.

The ACLI has also chosen Michael D. Fraizer, Genworth Financial Inc.’s chief executive and chairman, as the trade association’s chairman-elect. He will take the reins next October.

As ACLI’s chairman-elect designate, Mark R. Thresher, president and chief operating officer of Nationwide Financial Services Inc., is slated to become ACLI’s chairman in 2011.
