Finantix to roll out advisory apps for iPad later this year

Yes, there’s yet another financial services application developer hoping to leverage that sexy new machine, the iPad, and see that it gets into the hands of advisers — and investors.

I told you about Thomson Reuters Marketboard at the beginning of April.

Now Finantix, based in the United Kingdom, has announced that it is in the process of completing several applications for financial advisers and individual investors that will natively run on Apple’s wildly popular iPad.

Don’t get to excited just yet though, general availability isn’t expected until some time in the third quarter.

Reading between the lines of a press release issued late yesterday along with visits to the Finantix website these new applications appear to have been initially developed for the iPhone platform.

However, since the two devices share the same Apple iPhone operating system, applications developed for it will run on the iPad as well.

In fact, with a little optimization for the iPad’s larger screen such applications can in turn look like they were originally created for the newer device.

I hope to talk with Finantix founder Alessandro Tonchia later today. As luck would have it, while he works in London, he’s actually in New York today “with lots of meetings” according to an e-mail.

Hopefully he can squeeze me in for a few minutes.

Based on what I could glean from the press release what’s currently in development are financial planning, portfolio analysis, order management, alerting, and client reporting applications.

Mr. Tonchia wrote that using devices like the iPad and iPhone can allow “…client interactions [to] become more collaborative, with clients and advisers able to share an engaging planning experience.”

The iPad applications, according to Mr. Tonchia, complement the already completed Finantix wealth management suite, which is intended for use with both the high net worth and mass affluent segments of the advisory market.

“Additionally, monitoring financial events on a device that is designed for immediate and high-quality communication will greatly increase the productivity of advisers and their ability to reach out to clients in timely and intelligent ways," he added.

According to the press release Finantix software is explicitly architected for multi-channel delivery and is used by advisers, clients, branch employees and call centre agents.

Various international and European banks are listed as customers on the company’s website including HSBC, Erste Bank, and First National Bank in South Africa, among others.

In addition to the iPad, Finantix develops applications for the Web, Flash widgets and the iPhone. The iPad and iPhone components can or could be deployed stand-alone or integrated with the systems currently used by a financial institution.

An undisclosed number of wealth managers, also acting as design partners, are currently piloting the iPad applications.
