Adviser Carolyn McClanahan, founder of Life Planning Partners, Inc., finds the best holiday present is a donation to a charitable organization. During the year, Ms. McClanahan asks clients to recommend charities. She then picks three or four and sends donations during the holiday season. Every year and it’s been a big hit with clients. "They like it much better than gift baskets," she said.
