7. Is a hammock involved in inactive management?
For most folks, all management is “active management.” Thus, applying the phrase to money matters is a real head-scratcher. Here again, be like Horton the Elephant: Say what you mean. "Buying and selling stocks to try and beat the market” is straightforward and drives home the point. Likewise, “passive management” deserves to be jettisoned when talking to clients. Granted, "investing that tries to match entire markets, countries or industries,” is a mouthful. Then again, at least it's clear.
