The biggest draw at the box office in the 1930s, the song-and-dance man recorded his breakthrough role as a dramatic actor in 1938 in 'Boys Town.' Rooney received a Juvenile Academy Award for the performance. Rooney's performance off-screen, however, has not always been as exemplary. Married eight times, the longest-working actor in Hollywood fell on hard times after WWII and declared bankruptcy in 1962. In 1996, after being hit with a $1.75M bill by the IRS, the actor forever known as Andy Hardy once again declared personal bankruptcy. Since then, the one-time child star has alleged that he suffered from elder abuse at the hands of family members.
