When it comes to its debt holdings, Delaware's 15 corporate-bond analysts look at the whole bond spectrum, from AAA-rated debt all the way down to those rated CCC.“There are some organizations that are always buying high-grade bonds … and there are some organizations that are always buying BBB or lower bonds,” Coyne said. “One of our real skill sets is looking at the risks associated with any rating class and discerning where you will get the biggest return for the amount of risk you’re taking.” This approach appeals to the kind of analyst who is excited about the ability to look across a whole sector and see research as a career, not as a stepping stone to another position, Coyne said. “We really view the analyst, trading and portfolio management structure as one and as a team,” he said. “We believe that a strong portfolio manager is a reflection of really good trading and really good analysis.”
