The year began with the country teetering on the brink of the so-called fiscal cliff. But at 2:07 a.m. on New Year's day, the Senate approved an agreement by an overwhelming bipartisan margin that averted the cliff in part by encouraging investors to roll over 401(k) plans into Roth versions of those accounts. Who'd have thunk it?
