The not so empty nest
The kids may have left home but you’re still paying for their health insurance, cell phone bills, student loans, or car payments or maybe you’re helping out your elderly parents. It’s hard enough to save for retirement without the added burden of supporting additional adult family members.
Tip: It’s time for a reality check. Diverting retirement savings to helping others is laudatory, but it has consequences. Hopefully your family will appreciate your help and welcome you with open arms when you have to move in with them into their house on Elm Street in retirement.
