MARION ASNES Founder, President, Idea Refinery LLC
Marion Asnes is a nationally recognized financial marketer, editor, writer and speaker with a creative approach to financial information that makes complex business and economic concepts fresh, engaging and accessible. She is the founder and president of Idea Refinery, a strategic marketing and communications consultancy based in Westchester, NY.
Prior to founding Idea Refinery, Asnes was Managing Director, Chief Marketing Officer of Envestnet, Inc., a financial technology and asset management firm based in Chicago. While at Envestnet, Asnes managed marketing, messaging and communication, supervised the firm’s rebranding and relaunch of its website, and supervised public relations during four major acquisitions.
Prior to joining Envestnet, Asnes was Editor in Chief of Financial Planning magazine, the leading professional magazine for independent financial advisors, with a circulation of 115,000. Asnes was the first female editor in chief of Financial Planning since its founding in 1970. While serving as Editor in Chief, she also participated in the relaunch of the magazine website, co-founded the Women Advisors Forum, inaugurated a series of podcasts on emerging financial issues and developed a series of conferences with the National Football League Players Association.
Before joining Financial Planning, Asnes was a Senior Editor at Money magazine, participating in the magazine’s coverage of personal finance, retirement, investing and health care issues. While at Money, Asnes appeared as an expert on financial and economic topics on national television including CNN, CNN Headline News, NBC’s Today, ABC’s 20/20, PBS’s NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor. Her areas of expertise included retirement and 401(k) planning, asset allocation, estate planning, and the particular financial challenges faced by women. In addition to her regular editorial duties at Money, Asnes co-edited Money for Women, an annual special issue that was featured exclusively on NBC’s Today.
Over the years, Asnes has contributed to a long list of national publications including Vogue, Self, More, Elle, Working Woman and Lear’s. She has spoken at conferences and symposia ranging from the National Endowment for Financial Education’s Retirement Summit and the California Governor’s Conference on Women to the National Football League’s Rookie Symposium, and was on the faculty of the Woodhull Institute for Ethical Leadership.
Asnes is on the Board of the Institute for the Fiduciary Standard, and was on the Planning Committee for the Financial Planning Association’s 2011 and 2012 Retreats, an annual conference that focuses on emerging issues and techniques for financial planners.
Asnes holds a B.A. from Cornell University. She lives in Irvington, NY.
JYOTI CHOPRA Managing Director, Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion, BNY Mellon
Jyoti Chopra, Managing Director, is the Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion for BNY Mellon. She joined the company in 2012 and is based in New York City. Jyoti is responsible for leading the company’s comprehensive award-winning diversity and inclusion program and promoting a culture of inclusion that creates pathways for the continued recruitment, development and advancement of a diverse workforce. Her responsibilities include overseeing BNY Mellon’s diversity strategy and execution, advancing diversity training and hiring and serving on the company’s Global Diversity and Inclusion Council, a group led by BNY Mellon Chairman and CEO Gerald Hassell. She is a member of BNY Mellon’s Operating Committee and is the company’s representative to and co-Chair of the Global Talent and Diversity Council of the Asia Society.
Previously, Jyoti served as the global leader for communications and public relations at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited, where she was responsible for external relations, executive, online and business group communications. In 2011, she initiated and spearheaded the development of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu’s first global diversity report. She joined Deloitte in February 2009 working for the Office of the CEO and the Global Chief of Staff where she was responsible for leading and managing strategic projects and supporting the Global CEOs office and the Executive team.
Jyoti worked at Merrill Lynch from 1998 until 2009. She was Managing Director and head of communications for the Americas and the Global Banking divisions at Merrill Lynch (comprised of approximately 30,000 employees). Jyoti was responsible for strategic communications and related plans, programs and initiatives with Americas and bank business areas. She was actively involved in leading diversity and women’s initiatives for the group. She led and managed the marketing and communications integration of First Republic Bank, which was acquired by Merrill Lynch in September 2007 ($1.8 billion acquisition with 2,000 employees). Previously, Jyoti was head of the Multicultural Group at Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management. This role included the development, strategic planning and execution of the wealth management business and marketing and client acquisition activities targeting diverse investors and business owners. These efforts focused on the affluent African American, Hispanic, LGBT, Native American, South Asian, Special Needs, and Women’s markets and centered on community relations, strategic partnership development, and recruitment and retention programs. Jyoti was responsible for market planning, new business origination, community leadership, philanthropic support and client acquisition and relationship development for these diverse and emerging markets. From 2000 until 2002, Jyoti was director of client acquisition for Merrill Lynch Direct and responsible for new account acquisition, business development, portal alliances and marketing for Merrill Lynch’s and online trading platform (www.mldirect.ml.com). Jyoti joined Merrill Lynch in 1998 as vice president and manager of education services and developed diversified financial educational and marketing programs targeted to women, families, domestic partners, and multicultural groups.
Jyoti served as Merrill Lynch’s representative to and Chaired the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Diversity Committee from 2004-2009. She served as the firm’s representative to the SIFMA Investor Education Committee from 1998-2000. At Merrill Lynch she was a founding member and Senior Advisor to the global South Asian Professional Network. She has also served as a member of the Merrill Lynch Public Policy and Public Markets Committee.
Before joining Merrill Lynch, Jyoti was a writer and media consultant who covered human development and issues affecting women and children at the United Nations. From 1993 until 1997, she developed an award winning global media campaign at the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which entailed extensive educational outreach, global communications, advocacy and philanthropic work. From 1984 until 1993, Jyoti worked in the Office of Human Resources Management and the Division of Public Information at the United Nations Secretariat.
Jyoti was born and raised in London, England. She studied economics, English literature and law at London University and holds a Bachelor of Arts Honors degree in Journalism from New York University. She completed the Securities Industry Institute at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 2002. She has served on the boards of the Princeton YWCA and the Princeton Healthcare System. In 2003, Jyoti was an honoree and recipient of YWCA’s Tribute to Women.
HEATHER ETTINGER Managing Partner, Fairport Asset Management
Heather Ettinger has more than 25 year experience in the financial services industry and has held leadership roles in client acquisition and service, as well as operations and strategic planning. As a Managing Partner of Fairport Asset Management, Heather specializes in helping clients and their families create strategic financial plans to guide them through life transitions, such as the loss of a spouse, divorce, selling a business, retirement and job changes. In 2008, Wealth Management magazine named Heather one of the Top 50 Distinguished Women in Wealth Management.
Heather is widely recognized for her unique expertise, experience and dedication to helping other women build their financial acumen and wealth, both in her professional practice and community involvement. She co-authored a study of over 550 women in 44 states entitled “Women of Wealth: Why Does the Financial Services Industry Still Not Hear Them?” Heather has been featured in many publications including the Wall Street Journal, Investment News, Barrons, and Bloomberg. Her most recent national speaking engagements cover “She-Change: Women as Agents of Change in the Family, Business and Society and Its Impact on the Financial Services Industry.”
Having joined Roulston & Co. in 1987, Heather has been with Fairport since its founding. Previously, she served as an Equity Trader for Jefferies and a Research Analyst for Bordier & Cie and Baring Brothers. Heather remains an ardent supporter of her alma maters including Dartmouth College, where she earned a B.A., and Laurel School, where she served on the Board of Directors for 12 years. She is active with In Counsel with Women and the nationally recognized wealth management study group, Family Wealth Advisors Council. Heather also sits on the Boards of University Hospital Health Systems, The Private Trust Company and Asurint-One Source Technology.
Heather lives in Shaker Heights with her husband and three children. In her free time, she enjoys playing ice hockey, snow skiing and cycling.
KAYLA FLATEN Assistant Vice President, Pershing LLC, a BNY Mellon company
Kayla Flaten is an Assistant Vice President for Pershing LLC, a BNY Mellon company. Ms. Flaten is an Account Manager in Pershing Prime Services, responsible for day-to-day support for hedge funds and ’40 Act funds. Ms. Flaten joined Pershing in 2011 as a member of the Corporate Trainee Program.
Prior to joining Pershing, she completed a number of finance-related internships at UBS (Retirement Income Fund Services and Wealth Management Research), JP Morgan Securities and New York Life Insurance Company.
Ms. Flaten, along with an executive sponsor and colleague, launched and co-leads a Reverse Mentoring Program at Pershing, called Connect. The program consists of pairing associates from the Millennial generation with members of Pershing’s executive committee as mentors, to provide generational insights and help to bridge the generational gap. She is also an active member of the firm’s Women’s Initiative Network (WIN) and an advocate in the community, working for the advancement of women’s education.
Ms. Flaten earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and minor in Economics from Iona College’s Hagan School of Business.

Prior to joining Raymond James in 2012, she served as Endowment Chair and Treasurer of the Beaux Arts of the Lowe Art Museum, fundraiser Co-Chair for the organization’s Festival of Art 60th Anniversary Fundraiser, Private Banking Officer with Northern Trust Bank, and Management Associate with First Union National Bank of Florida.
Allison earned a bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Spanish from Wake Forest University. Additionally, she completed a semester at the University of Salamanca in Spain, and the McIntire Business Institute Summer Program at the University of Virginia.
She is very active in the St. Philip’s Episcopal Church & School not only as a parishioner, but as a Sunday school teacher, member of the board of trustees, a volunteer at the Homeless Assistance Center, and a member of the Annual Fund Committee, family mentor, room parent, treasurer, and a past gala fundraiser chair.
Allison lives in Coral Gables with her husband, William, a Miami native. They have three active boys and spend much of their free time attending soccer games and swim meets. Allison also enjoys travel, musical theater, ballet, literature, water sports and needlework. She is fluent in Spanish.

Trisha Miller is an Executive Director of W. P. Carey, Inc. and an Executive Vice President and National Sales Manager of Carey Financial, LLC, W. P. Carey’s broker-dealer subsidiary. In this position, she oversees the wholesaling team in the field as well as the internal sales desk at Carey Financial. Ms. Miller began her career in the financial services industry in 1986. She has extensive experience working and developing relationships with advisors in all channels, including independent financial advisors, wirehouses, banks and registered investment advisors. Prior to W. P. Carey, she was Institutional Sales Director and a sales manager at Rydex Investments. Ms. Miller began her career as a broker at Dean Witter and has worked previously at Putnam Funds and Columbia Funds.
Ms. Miller earned her B.A. from Chatham College in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and her MBA in Finance and Marketing from the Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. She is a Certified Financial Planner and holds several securities licenses. Ms. Miller has been involved in the Financial Planning Association since 1997 and served as a board member of the National Capitol Chapter of the FPA for four years. Ms. Louisa Quarto joined Realty Capital Securities and American Realty Capital in April 2008 and currently serves as President, Realty Capital Securities, member FINRA, SIPC and Senior Vice President, American Realty Capital. Ms. Quarto has over 17 years’ experience in the direct investment industry and her current responsibilities with the company include overseeing national accounts, operations, due diligence and compliance activities for Realty Capital Securities. From February 1996 through April 2008 Ms. Quarto was with W. P. Carey & Co. LLC, most recently as Executive Director and Chief Management Officer of Carey Financial, LLC, the broker-dealer subsidiary of W. P. Laura Steckler is a Vice President of Investments and an Investment Management Consultant. She earned her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER ™ certification and heads Steckler Wealth Management Group where she focuses on providing comprehensive financial planning, including investment and retirement planning, education funding, risk management through insurance planning, and tax and estate tax reduction strategies. Laura enjoys spending time playing tennis, traveling, boating, doing yoga, and marathon training. She is married and has a son. She feels passionately about volunteering and is active in several charitable organizations. Two areas that are a focus of her attention are working with indigent seniors and women’s organizations. One of her long term goals is to spend more time doing not for profit work to help those less fortunate in her community.

Mark Tibergien is Chief Executive Officer of Pershing Advisor Solutions, a BNY Mellon company. Previously, he was president of a nationally recognized bank and business training and consulting firm, a principal in an investment management and business valuation firm, a writer for a financial trade magazine and a general assignment newspaper and radio reporter.

He has worked closely with hundreds of independent registered investment advisors, broker-dealers, investment managers, insurance companies and other financial services organizations in the United States, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and Canada.
For eight consecutive years, Accounting Today recognized Mr. Tibergien as one of the “100 Most Influential” people in the accounting profession. In 2013, Investment Advisor magazine recognized him for the eleventh consecutive year as one of the “25 Most Influential” people in the financial services industry and in 2012 InvestmentNews named him to their list of “The Power 20.”
