* Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. in New York has named Christine Donovan, 34, head of securities lending…

* Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. in New York has named Christine Donovan, 34, head of securities lending in Boston. She founded and was president of Boston Global Advisors Inc., now a division of Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

* Sydney Futures Exchange has elected Ian Payne, 57, as a member of the Australian exchange’s board and chairman of its clearing house. He joined the clearing house board as an independent director in 1998 and recently retired as executive director and deputy chief executive of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. He replaces Michael Sheehan, 48, as chairman of the clearing house board. He also replaces Bruce Hudson, 64, who has stepped down from the Sydney Futures Exchange board as independent director.

* Friends Ivory & Sime, a London-based investment management firm, has named Elizabeth Elliott McGeveran, 28, vice president-ethical research for the New York office. Ms. McGeveran was managing director at Co-op America in New York.

* Stein Roe Private Capital Management in Chicago has appointed Mark J. Cassell, 32, senior portfolio manager. Mr. Cassell was a portfolio manager with the investment counselors division of American National Bank and Trust Co. in Chicago.

* Loomis Sayles & Co. in Boston has named Charlie Hannigan, 33, vice president of institutional marketing and Art Lutschaunig, 41, managing director of retail distribution. Mr. Hannigan was principal at Boston Partners Asset Management and Mr. Lutschaunig headed Strategic Advisers Inc., Fidelity Investments’ registered investment adviser unit.

* Global Investment Systems in Hackensack, N.J., has promoted Barry McConville, 43, to director of sales and marketing worldwide. He had served since January as general manager of the firm’s European operation.

* Manulife Financial in Boston has named Matthew R. Schiffman, 42, president of Manufacturers Investment Trust. Mr. Schiffman was regional vice president at Nicholas-Applegate Capital Management in San Diego.

* Founders Asset Management LLC in Denver has appointed Curtis J. Anderson, 36, vice president and portfolio manager of Founders Balanced Fund and other Founders balanced accounts. Mr. Anderson, a chartered financial analyst, was senior vice president and lead portfolio manager for the Achievement Balanced Fund of First Security Investment Management in Salt Lake City.

* Hartford Life Inc. in Simsbury, Conn., has appointed Steve Ellis, 52, national director and field vice president for government retirement plan sales. He has been with the company for more than 29 years and was most recently responsible for 457-plan sales in the Atlantic and central regions.

* Finarc LLC in Newton, Mass., has hired Matthew Slaney, 28, as a portfolio assistant. He was municipal bond research associate for Colonial Management in Boston.

* Capital Markets Co. in New York has named Stuart Feffer, 34, and Christopher Kundro, 35, partners. Mr. Feffer was a partner and Mr. Kundro a senior manager at Deloitte Consulting in Wilton, Conn.

* Jefferies Group Inc. in Los Angeles has appointed Joseph A. Schenk, 52, chief financial officer. He had been senior vice president and director of prime brokerage services for the Jefferies & Co. operating subsidiary since 1997.

* Putnam Investments in Boston has named Erwin Martens, 43, managing director and head of risk management. He was head of global market risk management, fixed income and derivatives for Lehman Brothers Holdings in New York.

* Allstate Federal Savings Bank in Northbrook, Ill., has hired Matthew C. Graves, 43, as president. He was senior vice president-payment strategies at Wells Fargo Service Co. in Minneapolis.

* ABN Amro Holding NV and ABN Amro Bank NV in Amsterdam have appointed R.W.J. Groenink, 50, chairman of the managing board, effective May 11. Mr. Groenink succeeds P.J. Kalff, 62, who will become a member of the bank’s supervisory board upon his retirement in May. Mr. Groenink joined Amro Bank in 1974, and most recently served on the managing board. The Netherlands division will be integrated into the European division in early 2000. J.M. de Jong, 54, who currently heads the international division, will assume responsibility for the European division effective May 11. As of that date, C.L. Kuiper, 52, will head the international division.

* State Street Global Advisors, the investment management arm of State Street Corp. in Boston, has named Keith E. Dennelly, 42, chief technology officer. Formerly chief information officer for Bankers Trust/Deutsche Bank’s Global Asset Mangement Services group in New York, he replaces John Fiore, 48, who becomes chief information officer of State Street Corp.

* Pacific Life Insurance Co. in Newport Beach, Calif., has made the following promotions: Dewey P. Bushaw, 46, to senior vice president, sales, in the annuities division from vice president; Joseph E. Celentano, 35, to vice president, product management in the institutional products division from assistant vice president; Adrian S. Griggs, 33, to vice president, financial, in the annuities division from assistant vice president; Carol R. Sudbeck, 33, to vice president of operations in the annuities division from assistant vice president; and Nancy A. Webb, 42, to vice president, finance and field services in the life insurance division from assistant vice president, financial reporting. Both Ms. Sudbeck and Ms. Webb are certified public accountants.

* Transwestern Commercial Services in Chicago has appointed Steven R. Forrer, 38, senior vice president of its Washington, D.C., investment services group. He had been senior vice president of Transwestern Carey Winston Realty Advisors in Washington.

* VMH Global Partners, a new private investment partnership in Rye, N.Y., is headed by founder Michel Hanigan, 52.Its president, he had been an executive director at Warburg Dillon Read in Stamford, Conn., specializing in American depositary receipts research and sales.
