In a video taped at the Schwab Impact conference in San Diego this week, Walt Bettinger, CEO of Charles Schwab Corp., discusses the company's plans for zero-commission trading. Mr. Bettinger said the company's news about free commission trades was timed with the release of firm founder Charles Schwab's new book.

Schwab announced Oct. 1 that it was eliminating commissions on online trading of stocks, exchange-traded funds and options. The fee cuts apply to both individual investors and financial advisers using the Schwab platform.

TD Ameritrade, ETrade Financial and Fidelity Investments all matched Schwab's move.
