Finalist: GRANT BLINDBURY
“You’re never too young to have an impact or make a difference,” said Grant Blindbury, a partner at FMB Wealth Management in Westlake Village, Calif. (broker-dealer Independent Financial Group LLC).
During his senior year at the University of California, Los Angeles, Mr. Blindbury became a Big Brother to an 8-year-old boy in the inner city. And even though he moved an hour away after his graduation, Mr. Blindbury continued to visit his “Little” regularly, maintaining the relationship for 11 years.
Three years ago, he asked the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura (Calif.) County how he could help, and they promptly added him to the board.
“I bring a good perspective as a different generation and as a longtime ‘Big,’” Mr. Blindbury said. “I’m able to serve as an example — if I’m young and starting a family and I can volunteer, so can you.”
In addition to fundraising and event planning, he has developed and implemented a planned-giving program for the organization.
His volunteer experiences have brought Mr. Blindbury closer to his older clients.
“I think they realize that: ‘His priorities are more in line with mine than I thought — maybe he does have the perspective and clarity that I’m looking for.’”
