Finalist: GERALD L. RAY (right)
Gerald L. Ray loves his alma mater, Texas A&M University, and wants to share the positive energy of its students with the financial world.
As a patriarch of the Dallas business community, he has developed lifelong mentoring relationships with many of the school’s business students.
“I don’t think I’d be near as positive about the direction of the country if I didn’t have the experience and good fortune to hear these young people out,” Mr. Ray said. “Their message is to be positive — it’s not entirely due to youth, but they have a great understanding of what’s proper and ethical.”
To promote Texas A&M business students, Mr. Ray, chairman of Gerald L. Ray and Associates (primary custodian Schwab), co-founded the Aggies on Wall Street program so they could experience Wall Street firsthand.
During the three-week program, students visit Wall Street firms and stock exchanges while networking with former students now working in the industry. Several hundred have gone through the program since it was established more than 15 years ago.
These activities and relationships have opened many doors to Texas A&M alumni who want to work on Wall Street. “It’s like bringing the ethics of the heartland to Wall Street,” Mr. Ray said.
