Sabrina Lowell has built a reputation for "leading by doing" in her 12 years with Mosaic Financial Partners, where she recently was named a shareholder and chief operating officer.
Her leadership skills also extend to her exceptionally active involvement in industry organizations. Ms. Lowell is a founding member and past president of NexGen, the Financial Planning Association's national group of advisers age 36 and younger. She also chaired the FPA Experience conference in 2013, and she served for two years as chairwoman of the annual Northern California FPA conference.
A San Francisco resident, Ms. Lowell also contributes time and talent to her community. As a member of The Junior League of San Francisco Inc., she has served on the League's board, spearheaded a $500,000 fundraising effort and now chairs a 200-women committee that oversees first-year members.
According to her 40 Under 40 survey, the best career advice Ms. Lowell ever received was: "Pick a direction, focus on it, give it your all — and if at the end you decide you don't like it, pick something else. It's given me the freedom to try new things and jump in wholeheartedly to experiences I may not have otherwise tried."
One direction that has consistently captured Ms. Lowell's interest is the mentorship of young women as they enter the career world. Having been mentored by many people herself, she now enjoys paying that support forward by encouraging young women to become active.
"It's about women empowering other women," she said. "Sometimes it just takes that one person saying, 'I think you'd be really great at chairing this committee,' to enable you to take the next step in your career."
