Ballentine Partners is an independent, fee-only multi-family office based in Waltham, MA. The certified B Corp provides wealth planning, investment management, and family well-being services to high-net-worth clients. It reported over $14 billion in AUM as of September 30, 2025.

History of Ballentine Partners

Ballentine Partners started because of a gap in the founder's own family estate planning. Roy Ballentine's father died in 1984, and the estate had trusts, partnerships, and corporations but no single advisor to manage them.

The company states that Roy saw a need for one firm that could give families integrated, objective advice. With that goal in mind, he founded Ballentine & Company that same year from his home in Wolfeboro.

Ballentine Partners' growth and rebrand

The firm operated from Roy's Wolfeboro home for more than a decade. It then added a partner in 1997 and was renamed as Ballentine, Finn & Company.

The team then moved to its first formal office on Mill Street in Wolfeboro two years later. In 2010, the shareholders restructured the business as Ballentine Partners, its current form.

Leadership transition and expansion

Drew McMorrow, now the company's president and CEO, joined Ballentine Partners as a staff member in 2002. He was promoted to president in 2011 and became CEO in 2016.

The firm opened a Palm Beach Gardens office in 2015 and launched its own private investment funds in 2020. It also manages multiple active funds under its affiliate, Ballentine Funds, GP.

Rebrand, research, and recognition

The company completed a corporate rebrand in 2023 and earned B Corp certification that same year. InvestmentNews also ranked Ballentine Partners seventh on its 2023 Top 25 Fee-Only Firms in the Northeast list. The ranking used SEC Form ADV data, which puts the firm among the largest fee-only advisors in its region.

A research program on family well-being, started in 2006, produced the three-book Healthy, Wealthy & Wise series. The series looks at how families with wealth balance financial success with personal values and relationships. That work led to The Ballentine Partners Center for Family Well-being in 2024, the same year founder Roy Ballentine retired.
