Prime Capital Financial (PCF) is a registered investment adviser based in Overland Park. The firm offers wealth management and retirement consulting to help people finance their lifestyle goals. As of January 2026, its 400+ employees manage over $30 billion in regulatory assets across more than 70 locations.

History of Prime Capital Financial

The firm known today as PCF began when financial professional Kerry Lawing founded Lawing Financial in 1985. The company expanded its services by creating a wealth management arm in 1997.

Two of Lawing Financial's associates, Scott Colangelo and Tim Hakes, later launched Qualified Plan Advisors in 2004 to provide fiduciary services. This group eventually joined into the broader network to support plan trustees and employees.

Employee buyout and restructuring

Several employees bought Lawing Financial in 2017 and rebranded it as Prime Capital Investment Advisors. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) registered the firm as an investment advisor that same year.

PCIA then transitioned to an advisor ownership model in 2021. This change allowed the financial advisors to hold a direct stake in the holding company.

Growing through acquisitions

PCIA spent several years expanding its national footprint through regional acquisitions. The firm acquired Giesting Financial and the Financial Fitness for Life platform in 2018.

PCIA then bought Financial Network Limited in 2021 to grow its retirement practice. Stonnington Group and Crossvault Capital Management joined the network shortly after to add wealth management resources.

Rebranding to Prime Capital Financial

PCIA officially changed its name to Prime Capital Financial in 2024. The rebrand reorganized the firm's service lines into five main groups:

  1. Prime Capital Wealth: investment management, estate planning, and family office services
  2. Prime Capital Retirement: fiduciary consulting for plan sponsors and participants (formerly Qualified Plan Advisors)
  3. Prime Capital Wellness: financial coaching and education for employees (formerly Financial Fitness for Life)
  4. Prime Capital Family Office: high-net-worth family services launched in early 2025 through the addition of SineCera Capital
  5. Prime Capital Tax Advisory: tax planning services launched in late 2025 through the acquisition of Hartman Wanzor McNamara

Prime Capital Financial earned an InvestmentNews Top Independent HNW Advisors 2025 award as a Midwest region winner. The merit-based ranking uses SEC filings and independent ownership data.

About CEO Glenn Spencer and key people

Glenn Spencer is CEO of Prime Capital Financial and has more than 30 years of leadership experience. He was with Lockton Companies for 12 years and Marsh McLennan for over a decade, both professional services firms. Spencer holds a BBA from The George Washington University.

The future at PCF

In 2026, Prime Capital Financial acquired Bradshaw Rogers Financial Partners, a Salisbury firm with about $600 million in AUM. The deal adds a tax-focused wealth management team and gives PCF a fifth office in the Carolinas. It also supports PCF's Tax Advisory practice as it builds out its planning platform for individuals and business owners.

PCF also promoted Scott Duba to president and Will McGough to CIO as part of a broader leadership shake-up. It brought on Fred Reish, an ERISA expert, to guide fiduciary efforts within its retirement practice. These moves signal PCF's push to scale its wealth, retirement, tax, and insurance services across the country.
