Serving at the helm of Wealthspire's New York City office, the firm's largest contributor with over 40 percent of the assets under management, Zach Gering holds the dual roles of financial advisor and office lead. Gering says he ultimately wants to be a mentor to up-and-coming financial advisors.

“I just want to create more people who can do what we do and that's really the rewarding thing for me,” he says.

Gering's success to date was recognized by him being named an InvestmentNews Awards 2024 Excellence Awardee, with the winners announced on June 20 at 583 Park Avenue, New York in a glitzy, red carpet ceremony. Click here to register to attend.

One of the most pivotal points in Gering’s 12-year career came 10 years ago when one of his former firm’s advisors left, causing him to take over the small book of roughly 50 clients. This accelerated his role as an advisor, and although he recalls it being a scary moment, he took the opportunity with open arms.

“I remember being very ready for it," he says. "Not that I had like a ton of self-confidence … but these were warm people, they were people who I maybe even had some kind of connection with. I was proud of myself for how I handled it."

Gering establishes rapport effortlessly with clients and prospects alike, exuding a demeanor that is composed, competent, and well-informed. Last year, he achieved over 34 percent growth in his book of business, growing his AUM by roughly $97 million. He is quick to point out that growth wasn’t from speaking on panels or writing blogs but “from a handful of very trusted clients.”

Looking ahead to the next year, Gering wants to increase his book of business but also create more opportunities for the firm’s NextGen advisors.

“I want to help advisors be better advisors, to be more knowledgeable, show them how to provide great client service and help get them in front of more people and serve more households,” he said.
