MassMutual unit appoints CIO

Baring Asset Management, the investment management arm of MassMutual Financial Group, today announced that Marino Valensise will assume the role of chief investment officer by the year's end. Michael Hughes, the current chief investment officer, will be retiring. Prior to his new appointment, Mr. Valensise was head of Baring's fixed income and currency team. Parent company MassMutual is a diversified financial services firm based in Springfield, Mass.
