James Wrynn to become N.Y. superintendent of insurance

New York Gov. David A. Paterson has named James J. Wrynn the state's superintendent of insurance. Mr. Wrynn will start Aug. 20 as superintendant designate and will become the permanent appointment following Senate confirmation. Previously, he was the executive director of the New York State Insurance Fund. Mr. Wrynn is also a founding partner of MacKay Wrynn and Brady LLP in New York, where he litigated cases on behalf of large companies and their policyholders, as well as municipalities and public authorities. His annual salary will be $127,000, according to the New York State Insurance Department. Mr. Wrynn replaces Eric R. Dinallo, who is now the Henry Kaufman Visiting Professor of Finance at New York University. Mr. Wrynn also takes the reins from acting superintendent Kermitt Brooks, who has overseen the department since early last month. Mr. Brooks will return to his role as first deputy superintendent.
