Family offices poured $68.3B into AI and RIA deals in Q3 2026

Family offices deployed capital at an exceptional pace in the third quarter of 2026, participating in 342 company transactions totaling $68.3 billion in disclosed round capital as artificial intelligence and wealth management consolidation dominated the deal landscape, according to new data from FINTRX, the private wealth intelligence platform.

The FINTRX Q3 2026 Family Office Investment Activity Report, which tracks family office investment activity across company transactions, venture rounds, acquisitions, and real estate, found that 161 family offices invested in 319 companies across those 342 deals between July and September 2026. A further 23 real estate transactions were completed in the same period, bringing disclosed property deal value to $2.41 billion.

The data points to a channel that is both more active and more concentrated than prior quarters - a small number of mega-rounds in frontier technology pulled the average disclosed round size to $260.7 million, while the median landed at $34.5 million.

The gap reflects just how dominant a handful of transactions were: Blue Origin's $10 billion raise, Databricks at $5 billion, Mistral AI at $3.5 billion, and The Boring Company at $3 billion each attracted at least one family office participant.

AI leads, but the full picture is broader

Technology and AI-linked sectors accounted for the largest share of deal volume by a wide margin. Pure technology transactions numbered 69, with Databricks, Cognition, Switch Inc., and Harvey among the most prominent rounds. When technology-enabled companies across financial services, industrials, energy, and public services are included, the technology footprint spans well over half of all Q3 activity, according to the FINTRX data.

Healthcare and life sciences contributed 27 transactions, drawing some of the quarter's largest late-stage biotech commitments, including Neko Health's $700 million Series C and Enveda's $311 million round. Defense and advanced manufacturing also emerged as a notable allocation theme, with Helsing ($1.8 billion), Hadrian Automation ($1.37 billion), and Quantum Systems ($1.2 billion) each closing billion-dollar rounds with family office participation.

Energy rounded out the main themes. Base Power, Form Energy, and Antora Energy together raised $2.3 billion in the quarter, and the FINTRX report notes that Capricorn Investment Group, Foris Ventures, and Emerson Collective ranked among the most active energy investors in its dataset.

a16z Perennial sets the pace

By transaction count, a16z Perennial, the family office affiliated with venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, was the most active investor in the quarter by a significant margin, completing 56 transactions. The firm appeared as a participant in Databricks, Mistral AI, The Boring Company, Cognition, Atoms, Base Power, Castelion, Hadrian Automation, and Switch Inc., among others.

Its second-place counterpart, Wealth Enhancement Advisory Services, completed 11 transactions in the quarter, every one of them an RIA acquisition, with the most recent one of the biggest deals RIA deals of the year so far - RWA Wealth Partners, a Boston registered investment advisor with approximately $22.46 billion in client assets.

The contrast of frontier venture capital on one side and wealth management consolidation on the other captures a defining tension running through the quarter's activity.

YZi Labs, the family office associated with Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, completed 10 transactions concentrated in crypto and early-stage fintech. ICONIQ Capital participated in Helsing, Whatnot, and K2 Space. Bezos Expeditions committed to Blue Origin's $10 billion raise alongside its position in CuspAI.

RIA acquisitions reflect accelerating consolidation

Of the 342 company transactions tracked by FINTRX, 49 were RIA acquisitions - accounting for 14 percent of total deal volume and making wealth management consolidation the second most active deal category behind pure technology.

Wealth Enhancement Advisory Services’ 11 deals was followed by Corient with four including the $21 billion Summit Trail Advisors. Cerity Partners and MAI Capital Management were also among the most active acquirers.

That activity mirrors broader consolidation trends across the independent advisory industry. As InvestmentNews reported in July 2026, RIA dealmaking was on pace to reach approximately 500 transactions for the full year – which would rank as the most active year on record. Research from DeVoe & Company and Echelon Partners has similarly found that acquired RIA assets nearly doubled in 2026, with deal size climbing alongside deal count.

Family office-affiliated platforms are contributing materially to that volume, the FINTRX data suggests, functioning as both wealth managers and direct investors particularly in the UHNW and multi-family office segments of the market.

Real estate: office and multifamily hold their ground

Family office real estate activity remained steady in Q3 2026, with 23 property transactions across office, multifamily, industrial, healthcare, and mixed-use assets. Seventy-eight percent of transactions were US-based, with international deals in the United Kingdom and the Czech Republic.

The quarter's standout transaction came from Pontegadea Investments, the family office of Spanish retail billionaire Amancio Ortega, which acquired Capital 8 in London for $912 million, representing more than a third of the quarter's total disclosed real estate value on its own.

Ofer Global, meanwhile, acquired 120 Park Avenue in New York for $382 million. Multifamily residential remained active, with Pebb Capital, Broad Creek Capital, and Leon Capital Group among the most frequently cited US buyers.

The FINTRX Q3 2026 Family Office Investment Activity Report is based on company and real estate transactions tracked by the platform from July through September 2026. All capital figures reflect total round size, not individual family office commitments.
