EdgeCo Holdings, the parent company of NewEdge, is reinforcing its already formidable status in the retirement space with a landmark acquisition.

The firm announced that it has acquired ERISApedia, a compliance and prospecting resource for retirement planning professionals, folding the platform into its AmericanTCS business unit.

The deal brings ERISApedia’s full suite of offerings under the umbrella of AmericanTCS, where its services will be integrated with PensionPro, a platform that supports plan administration and retirement plan advisors.

The acquisition adds to EdgeCo’s footprint in the small- and mid-sized retirement plan market, which the firm has targeted through a series of rollups going back to before the pandemic.

“This acquisition represents a special opportunity to combine our strengths, expand our capabilities and deliver even greater value to our customers,” Darren Connor, chief operating officer of PensionPro, said in a statement.

Based in Pittsburgh, EdgeCo said the agreement marks its tenth transaction in the retirement space, with more deals expected as part of its long-term growth strategy.

ERISApedia, founded to serve plan sponsors, third-party administrators and retirement-focused advisors, has built a reputation for its searchable compliance libraries and industry tools aimed at helping firms navigate the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

“The AmericanTCS group of businesses understands what’s required to support the needs of retirement plans and their providers,” said Tim McCutcheon, ERISApedia’s owner.

EdgeCo currently services more than $650 billion in assets under custody or administration through its AmericanTCS and NewEdge Capital Group units. Its reach extends to over 10,000 advisors and 420 financial institutions.

AmericanTCS, established in 2022, brought together several of EdgeCo’s acquired businesses dating back to 2018. Those include American Trust Wealth, American Trust Custody, American Technology Automation, American Trust Retirement and FiduciaryXChange.

The unit provides a combination of bundled and standalone services such as recordkeeping, administration, trust and custody to intermediary professionals.

As of its last major growth update on December 3, EdgeCo reportedly supported roughly three-fifths of 401(k) plans nationwide, touching more than 425,000 retirement plans.
