Investment research provider Morningstar Inc. posted a quarterly profit increase late yesterday. The Chicago-based firm’s third-quarter net income was up 12% to $22.2 million, or 45 cents per share, compared with $19.9 million, or 41 cents per share, in the year-ago period. Revenue in the independent investment research provider’s institutional segment rose to $68.9 million in the third quarter, up 13.3% from the year-ago period. That includes a 10.5% revenue rise for its adviser segment, to $32.4 million.
