Top Merrill economist quits

Jesper Koll, an economist for Merrill Lynch based in Japan, has stepped down from his post, published reports said. An eight-year veteran of the company, Mr. Koll left Merrill Lynch to create an investment company, Bloomberg reported. He had turned in his resignation four months ago and left the company on May 31. Mr. Koll’s replacement hasn’t been named yet, Bloomberg said. Before joining Merrill Lynch as chief economist in 1999, Mr. Koll was a managing director at Tiger Management LLC, a hedge fund based in North Charleston, S.C.
