A Birmingham, Alabama-based broker-dealer with three decades of history is retiring its name in favor of one rooted in its founder's family story.

NBC Securities oversees more than $5 billion in assets under advisement through 85 financial professionals across 28 branch offices nationwide. It was founded in 1995 on the premise that relationships come first, a principle the new name is meant to carry forward.

The new name, Lanark Financial, holds personal significance for founder Frank Falkenburg, named for a road in Birmingham where his father lived and where father and son once ran a small record label called Lanark Records. The word also has Celtic roots, translating loosely to a glade or open clearing where light breaks through, a meaning the firm says mirrors the clarity and room to grow it has offered advisors and clients for 30 years.

The rebrand comes as independent broker-dealers are increasingly folded into larger platforms, while Lanark Financial is positioning itself in the opposite direction, aiming to sharpen its identity and expand its advisor network while remaining independently owned, a status it has held since 2010.

"This firm has always been a place where advisors have the room, resources, and support to grow while serving clients the right way," said Peyton Falkenburg, president of Lanark Financial. "That is what Lanark means to us, and what the next thirty years are built around."

Rebrands in the wealth space are not unusual; there have been several over the past year. Hightower rolled out Hightower Signature Wealth to rebrand the firms it acquires and open the door to smaller RIA deals; the Independent Advisor Alliance, a hybrid RIA supporting more than 250 advisors, became Visionary Square; and SLK Private Wealth Management dropped its name in favor of Evolve Private Wealth as it repositioned itself around multigenerational family office services.

Only a new name

The company stresses that the name change does not signal a shift in ownership, staff, or client relationships. Frank Falkenburg remains chairman and Peyton Falkenburg continues as president, with both described as steering the firm's next phase together.

Lanark Financial will continue to support both W-2 employee advisors and independent 1099 advisors, offering institutional-grade infrastructure alongside flexibility in how advisors manage client relationships. Its team averages more than 25 years of industry experience, backed by compliance support and practice resources.

"Taking care of our people, advisors, clients, and team members, is what has kept this firm on course for thirty years," Peyton Falkenburg said. "Getting a little better every day built NBC Securities. That same commitment will guide Lanark Financial for the next thirty."

Frank Falkenburg, who has spent 60 years in the industry, tied the name directly to his family's legacy.

"The Lanark name has meant something to my family for a long time," he said. "After 60 years in this industry, I am just as enthusiastic about the future of this firm as I was when we started. That is what this name means to me."

The firm has started using the Lanark Financial name across its website, client materials, advisor materials, and other brand channels this week.
