Note. Source for all data: 2013 InvestmentNews/Moss Adams Adviser Compensation & Staffing Study and the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Bubble sizes are determined by Service Adviser compensation; values for all three positions in a given market, however, are determined by the U.S. BLS' static geographic market multiplier and are equal in relative size to the national average.

With the participation window of our 2015 Compensation and Staffing survey closing (there is still time to participate — click here to take our newly-revamped, user-friendly survey), we thought it was as good a time as any to look back at how adviser pay looked across the country the last time we surveyed for these crucial industry benchmarks. Since then, the industry has experienced two years of double-digit growth. But have the warning signals that we've sounded on the importance of continued investment in adviser talent — and the consequences on growth that neglecting such investments could bring — been heeded? With the ever-increasing importance of technology in the advice industry, as well as an uncertain outlook for the bull market in stocks, have advisory firms learned from the financial crisis and market crash and girded their businesses for the future? As we begin tabulating the results of this year's survey, we are as interested in the level of adviser pay as we are in how firms have managed their equity and their staff from a balance sheet perspective. Our revamped Adviser Intelligence Dashboard highlights full revenues, expenses and profits breakdowns from our yearly flagship benchmarking studies. All firms that participate in our studies receive complimentary access to this online tool showcasing the results of our research, including sections on staffing, salaries and firm income statement. Take the survey today to benchmark your firm against the rest of the industry, and receive free access to both the report we publish in September, and our Adviser Intelligence Dashboard.
