Consumer sentiments improved slightly in November, according to the Reuters/University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index. After plummeting a record 12.7 points in October, the index rose this to 57.9 from 57.6 last month. Reuters reported the index was 76.1 this time last year. It has fallen significantly over the last two years. It rested at 92.1 in November 2006. Although confidence increased, it may turn out to be nothing more than a hiccup: An index measuring expectations for the future fell from 57 in October to 55.7 this month. The University of Michigan is located in Ann Arbor.
