Tackling the challenge of relocating

JUN 29, 2014
If anyone asked me four years ago, “Kelly, where do you see yourself after you graduate from William Paterson University?” my answer would be very far from the reality of where I am today. Today, I am an associate financial planner at FJY Financial in Reston, Va. Four years ago, I did not know that the financial planning industry existed, nor did I know that I was attending one of the top schools for it. It is clear that a lot has changed in the last four years, and these changes have brought me to where I am today. When I was offered the position at FJY Financial, a mix of emotions ran through my head. I knew this was the firm I wanted to begin my career with, but I was hesitant to leave my family and friends in New Jersey. I am extremely happy with the decision I made to relocate and begin working with the FJY team. During my first few days, I have spent a lot of time being trained on the different software FJY uses. I also have been building relationships with the other members of the team. I know that I have a lot to learn and there will be times when I feel overwhelmed with all the new information I am being taught, but I am very excited to undertake the journey and see my growth as an individual and as a FJY team member throughout the course of this year. Kelly McNerney is an associate financial planner at FJY Financial.
