Just three months after recruiting Burt White from LPL Financial for the newly created role of chief strategy officer, Carson Group has done it again by hiring LPL’s Ryan Detrick for the newly created position of chief market strategist.

Detrick, 43, who was recruited to LPL six years ago by White, held a similar position at LPL.

“My role is to help the current research team to formulate macro investment views, but I’ll also be a mouthpiece for Carson Group,” said Detrick, who is relocating from LPL’s Charlotte, North Carolina, office to Cincinnati, Ohio.

Carson Group, based in Omaha, Nebraska, serves financial advisers and investors through three businesses: Carson Wealth, Carson Coaching, and Carson Partners. The company manages approximately $20 billion through a network of more than 130 partner offices.

Founder Ron Carson had been affiliated with LPL before cutting his ties with the firm in late 2016, moving $2.6 billion worth of brokerage and advisory assets to Cetera Financial Group.

“I’ve known Ryan for over a decade, and I am incredibly excited about what he brings to the team,” White said in a statement.

“Ryan is a trusted voice in the industry, providing timely market insights, commentary and investment strategies to support advisers and their clients,” he added. “His strong relationships and expertise will help enhance our industry-leading wealth management offering and further our mission of being the most trusted in financial advice.”

Detrick joined LPL as a senior market strategist and was promoted about two years ago to chief market strategist, a role he describes as similar to what he is now doing at Carson Group. He joined Carson Group two weeks ago, but his official start date is Monday.

Prior to joining LPL, Detrick spent a decade at Schaeffer’s Investment Research.

He has a chartered market technician designation, a bachelor’s in finance from Xavier University and an MBA from Miami University.

“Carson’s investment team is one of the best in the industry and I look forward to working with them,” Detrick said. “We have an exciting opportunity to change the way the industry talks about market research and wealth management. I want to take complex market data and make it easy for the average investor to understand and share it in a way that is simple to digest.”
