MFS Names $438 billion investment chief Roberge as co-CEO

Will continue to serve as chief investment officer while joining with Manning in top spot.

MFS Investment Management, a Boston-based money manager owned by Canada’s Sun Life Financial Inc. (SLF), said Michael Roberge will become co-chief executive officer of the firm as of Jan. 1.
Mr. Roberge, who oversaw more than $438 billion as chief investment officer and president of MFS, will share the job with Robert Manning, 50, who has been CEO since 2004, the company said Tuesday in a statement. Mr. Roberge, 48, will continue to serve as investment chief. Kevin Beatty will be promoted to CIO of global equity and William Adams will be CIO of global fixed income.
“In his 18 years with the firm, Mike has proven himself to be an exceptional leader and a talented investor,” Mr. Manning said about Mr. Roberge in the statement.
Mr. Roberge joined MFS in 1996 in the fixed-income department and has served in roles including credit analyst, portfolio manager, research director and chief of fixed income. He was named president and CIO in January 2010.
MFS, which has been in business since 1924, is a subsidiary of Toronto-based insurer Sun Life Financial.
