Centerpoint Advisors LLC of Newton, Mass., has hired John E. Wolfsberg, 45, as director of fixed income.

As part of the distribution team expansion, the firm has named Jamie Atkinson, 47, national sales manager, with responsibility for leading the sales efforts of Sentinel’s 15 wholesalers. He joined the firm last year as senior vice president, Eastern division sales manager.

Centerpoint Advisors LLC of Newton, Mass., has hired John E. Wolfsberg, 45, as director of fixed income.

He will be responsible for fixed-income portfolio management for Centerpoint clients.

Previously, Mr. Wolfsberg served as a managing director and principal at The Bear Stearns Cos. Inc. of New York.

Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Horsham, Pa., has promoted Marsha Kohl, 57, to vice president of practice management.

In this new position, she will oversee all aspects of Penn Mutual’s practice management area and will lead the practice management, field-office-administration and life-sales desk teams in continuing to raise support for the company’s partners in the field.

Ms. Kohl joined Penn Mutual as a transcription associate in January 1970, and she has held positions of increasing responsibility in the company’s administration, new-annuity business and sales support operations.

Sammons Securities Co. of Ann Arbor, Mich., a subsidiary of Sammons Financial Group of Chicago, has named Cindy Reed, 50, president.

Her new position is in addition to her responsibilities as senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Sammons Annuity Group in Sammons Securities’ Des Moines, Iowa, office.

Ms. Reed joined Sammons Financial in 2001 as vice president responsible for sales and marketing for North American Annuities. She was later appointed senior vice president and chief marketing officer for Sammons Annuity, with responsibility for fixed and variable annuities sold by Midland National Life Insurance Co. and North American Life Insurance Co., both part of Sammons Financial.

Separately, Sammons Securities has named Matt Stahr, 39, chief marketing officer and vice president of broker-dealer distribution.

He will be responsible for managing the execution of the sales, recruiting, marketing and distribution strategies for the firm.

Mr. Stahr was instrumental in launching the Sammons Annuity fixed-annuity broker-dealer strategy in his recent role as assistant vice president of broker-dealer distribution at the unit.

NewOak Capital LLC of New York has hired Patrick Mooney, 46, as chief operating officer, with responsibility for coordinating internal operations, and system and processes build-out.

Previously, he served as managing director at The Bear Stearns Cos. Inc. of New York, where he drove its strategic foothold in fixed income and derivatives trading.

In addition, NewOak has formed a partnership with Fundamental Credit Capital Partners of New York and has named its founder, Candice Workman Nonas, 35, managing director of NewOak to help market the advisory, asset management and capital markets platform.

She founded her business early last year.

Kanaly Trust, a wealth management firm based in Houston, has hired J. Abbott Sprague, 54, as senior vice president.

Previously, he retired from the position of senior vice president at Invesco Aim Management Group Inc., also of Houston.

Sentinel Investments, the investment management arm of Montpelier, Vt.-based National Life Group, has named key additions to the distribution team at Sentinel Financial Services Co., distributor of the Sentinel Funds.

Chris Shanahan, 43, has joined Sentinel as regional vice president for the Great Lakes region. He will be responsible for sales of Sentinel investment products in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio.

Previously, Mr. Shanahan held similar positions at American Century Investments of Kansas City, Mo., and Putnam Investments of Boston.

Ted Roundy, 39, was hired as the regional vice president for Southern California and Hawaii.

Previously, he was regional director covering Southern California and Nevada at The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. of New York.

Tim Call, 38, has been named regional vice president for the Southern New England region.

Previously, he was a senior vice president at Putnam Investments.

J.P. Raflo, 37, has joined the team as regional vice president for the Mid-Atlantic region. He will be responsible for sales of Sentinel investment products in Delaware, Maryland, Southern New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.

Previously, Mr. Raflo worked at Ivy Funds in Overland Park, Kan., where he covered much of this region as vice president of sales.

Carl Berg, 40, was named vice president, key accounts operations.

Previously, he was at Boston-based MFS Investment Management, where he held various operational and systems management positions during his 10-year tenure.
