Average fund expense ratio now 0.41%, Morningstar finds

The average expense ratio on funds last year was less than half of what it was in 2000, according to Morningstar's annual study of fund fees.

The average expense ratio paid by fund investors, which has been falling for more than two decades, was 0.41% in 2020 — less than half what investors paid in fund fees, on average, in 2000.

That 2020 average was also lower than the 0.44% investors paid in 2019, according to Morningstar’s ann
