13 cringeworthy statements from clients
My biggest cringe moments when I was first starting my practice came from clients (typically women) saying that they just can't "do math."
It's a gender issue for me. Someone — a parent, a teacher, a friend — paralyzed that person by telling them they "can't do math." It sounds like a frequently repeated phrase. They "can't do ___ because they can't do math." The challenge and frustration is that the fear of math puts an unnecessary psychological hurdle which may slow down their progress or make them a bystander in planning their future. I've never been told by a man that they “can't do math.”
