The Dow Jones Industrial Average plummets nearly 1,000 points in less than half an hour. A report issued Oct. 1 by the SEC and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission determines that the so-called flash crash was caused when a trading firm executed a computerized selling program in an already stressed market.
