Financial heartbreak: Lying about money can cost you your relationship
Valentine’s Day is a time to celebrate romance, relationships and love. A recent survey suggests one big threat to the relationships we’re celebrating entails financial infidelity, when someone is being less than honest with their spouse or partner about financial matters.
A survey by Bankrate.com found that 23% of Americans who are in relationships say they are keeping some type of financial information secret from their partner, whether that’s undisclosed debt, a secret credit card or bank account, or the fact that they’re spending more than their partner would feel comfortable with.
More than half (52%) of those surveyed said they viewed financial infidelity as worse than physical infidelity.
The survey of 2,542 U.S. adults was conducted by YouGov for Bankrate.com and included 1,304 adults who were married, in a civil relationship or living with a partner.
