Growth or Value? These five stocks give you both
Dorfman's take: Powell Industries Inc. Ticker:(POWL) makes large-scale electrical equipment used by utilities and refineries, and also builds ventilation systems for highway tunnels. Powell is dirt cheap, trading at eight times earnings, 0.5 times sales and 1.2 times book value (assets minus liabilities per share). The stock is down about 12% this year, but undeservedly so in my view. After jumping 157% in 2008 and 52% in 2009, earnings are expected to decline 32% this year, to $2.33 a share. Yet that would still be Powell's second-best year. (Photo: Thomas Hawk)
