States with the lowest property taxes
As clients contemplate whether to relocate in retirement, property taxes may be one of the considerations, since such taxes can be a big expense for some homeowners. A recent survey from WalletHub ranks the states by their real-estate tax rate and calculates the annual taxes an individual would pay on a home priced at the median home value for each state. To put things in context, the Census Bureau says the average American household pays $2,471 in property taxes a year.
