Christopher J. Littlefield has been named the chief executive of the insurance company Aviva USA.
Mr. Littlefield was promoted from his prior post as chief operating officer.
In that position, he managed the carrier’s insurance administration, corporate affairs, legal and compliance matters, along with other duties.
At the helm of Aviva USA, Mr. Littlefield will lead the carrier’s U.S. life and annuity businesses.
Aviva USA is a subsidiary of Aviva PLC.
He will report to Thomas C. Godlasky, who is the CEO of Aviva North America and who, until recently, led Aviva USA.
The executive move is part of Aviva’s long-term plan to have different CEOs for its North America unit, its U.S. division and its Canada unit, according to spokeswoman Catherine Huggins.
Two years ago, Mr. Godlasky had appointed Robin Spencer CEO of Aviva Canada Inc.
