Playing Words With Friends at work. OK or not?
For the author, it's OK this week because the game's founder is donating to Nepal earthquake recovery.
I have a confession: Sometimes I play Words With Friends during work hours. It helps keep me awake during long, boring meetings and conference calls.
I will also confess to being hypocritical: I don’t like it when an employee of mine is playing a game at work.
But for this week, I’ll be OK with employees playing Words With Friends at work. The maker of the game, Zynga, will donate the cost of one course of antibiotics to survivors of the Nepal earthquake for every player who scores 1,000 points in Words With Friends by May 10. Zynga’s donation, of up to $50,000, will go to Direct Relief, an organization providing medical aid to the earthquake survivors. Direct Relief heads Charity Navigator’s list of Top 10 charitable organizations. The charity uses 100% of donations earmarked for Nepal solely for relief and recovery efforts related to the Nepal earthquake.
So, for now, it’s not only OK to play Words With Friends any time, it’s encouraged — but only through May 10!
