Who is eligible for an award?
The Community Leadership Awards is open to nominees currently working as financial planners (e.g., CFP), registered representative (e.g., Series 7), or registered investment advisers.

Volunteer involvement with the non-profit organization must be current and ongoing. A current involvement is one in which the activity has taken place within the last 18 months.

Only qualified non-profit organizations and educational institutions with tax-exempt status granted under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) are eligible to receive award donations. Social welfare, mental and physical health, cultural enrichment and educational organizations are examples of the types of organizations that may qualify for status.

Who can submit a nomination?
Anyone can nominate an adviser or an adviser team for Community Leadership Awards.

Is there a cost for applying?
No.

How do I submit an entry?

You may submit your entry either online or by downloading the nomination form.

Online: New this year, you may submit your entry online. The online nomination form allows you to electronically submit information about advisers, their charities, upload relevant materials and submit reference letters. If you submit an online nomination form, you will not need to mail any portion of your entry.

Download the nomination form: You may download the nomination form and mail all materials, type-written, by June 27, 2012. Please be as specific as possible. Only those entries that meet the criteria provided for each award will be considered.

Can I email my nomination?
No, nominations can either be filled out online or you can send hard copies.

Do you accept hard copies of nominations?
Yes, you may mail them via certified mail to: Lauren Russell, InvestmentNews, 711 Third Avenue, New York, NY 10017

Do we get our nomination forms back?
No.

How are entries evaluated?

Entries are evaluated based on the following:

1. Leadership: Ability to motivate and inspire others to accomplish a specific goal or objective. Ability to inspire others to volunteer personal time.

2. Distinction: Recognized by efforts that creates an indelible influence on other volunteers and in the community.

3. Dedication: Recognized by others as being dedicated to achieving desired results by pursuit, courage and enthusiasm.

4. Contribution: Recognized by having made a significant contribution of personal time and efforts beyond expectations.

Three finalists per category will be selected by InvestmentNews in conjunction with an advisory board. Finalists will be announced early August, 2012.

Will sending more reference letters and pictures increase my chances of winning?
No. Submitting two reference letters and the nomination form in its entirety is sufficient.

If I was a Community Leadership Awards finalist in a category one year, can I submit a nomination this year for the same category?
Past finalists may submit a nomination for consideration in the same caetgory only after five years have elapsed from being chosen as a finalist.

If I was a Community Leadership Awards finalist in a category one year, can I submit a nomination this year in a new or different category?
Past finalists may submit a nomination for consideration in a new or different category only after three years have elapsed from being chosen as a finalist.

If I was a Community Leadership Awards finalist in a category one year, can I submit a nomination this year for a different charity?
Past finalists may submit a nomination of a different charity for consideration only after five years have elapsed from being chosen as a finalist.

How will I know if I am a finalist?
All finalists will be contacted by InvestmentNews. If you are not a finalist, you will not be contacted.

When will I know if I am a finalist?
Finalists will be announced the beginning of August.

How much is each charity awarded if it wins?
Each honoree receives $10,000 to his or her charity. Finalists receive $1,500.

When is the awards dinner?
