The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority Inc. should improve how it communicates rule interpretations for mutual fund advertising, according to a July 26 Government Accountability Office report. It said Finra should not communicate rule interpretations through individual comment letters because it leads to inconsistencies with standards and raises competitive issues. Instead, the self-regulatory organization should develop a way to communicate standards to the whole industry. See the report here.
