* Merrill Lynch Investment Managers of Plainsboro, N.J., has appointed Daniel J. Dart, 46, chief operating officer of Americas third-party retail. He previously was executive vice president and head of U.S. sales at Pioneer Investment Management Inc. of Boston.

* First Tennessee National Corp. of Memphis has named Ken Glass as its CEO. Mr. Glass, 55, joined the banking company in 1974 and most recently was its chief operating officer. He replaces Ralph Horn, 61, who will continue as chairman.

* Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. of New York has named Jack Bigio, 42, managing director and chief administrative officer of its financial services division. Mr. Bigio formerly was head of banker support services in the investment banking division of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. of New York.

* JPMorgan Private Bank of New York has hired Robert A. Keller as a managing director in its San Francisco office. Mr. Keller, 40, was with San Francisco private-equity firm Rosewood Capital, where he was a general partner. Earlier, he was with the San Francisco investment bank Hambrecht & Quist, now JPMorgan H&Q.

* Columbia Management Group, a unit of FleetBoston Financial Corp., has named Mark Marinella, 44, managing director and head of its fixed-income department. He previously was executive vice president and co-chief investment officer at Boston’s State Street Research and Management Co.

* Mazama Capital Management Inc. of Portland, Ore., has announced a promotion and two new hires. Gretchen Schroeder has been promoted to senior research analyst for the consumer sector, from analyst. Before joining Mazama, Ms. Schroeder, 30, was an assistant vice president and equity analyst at New York’s Cramer Rosenthal McGlynn LLC. Mazama also has named Timothy M. Butler and Michael D. Clulow assistant vice presidents and equity research analysts. Mr. Butler, 36, joins from Pacific Crest Securities of San Mateo, Calif., where he was an analyst. Mr. Clulow, 34, was a senior analyst in New York with UBS Warburg LLC of Stamford, Conn.

* Aquila Management Corp. of New York has named Emily T. Rae vice president of the Aquila Rocky Mountain Equity Fund and the Aquila Tax-Free Fund of Colorado. Ms. Rae, 28, previously worked as an investment analyst at Colorado State Bank and Trust in Denver. Aquila also has named two attorneys trustees of separate muni bond funds it offers. John J. Partridge, 62, a partner at Partridge Snow & Hahn LLP in Providence, R.I., joins the board of the Narragansett Insured Tax-Free Income Fund, which invests in Rhode Island municipal securities. Grady Gammage Jr., 50, a partner at Gammage & Burnham PLC of Phoenix, joins the board of Aquila’s Tax-Free Trust of Arizona.

* PFPC Inc. of Wilmington, Del., has hired James M. McCoy as vice president and director of sales and marketing for the managed-account division. Mr. McCoy, 41, comes to the mutual fund transfer agency – a subsidiary of Pittsburgh’s PNC Financial Services Group Inc. – from FOLIOfn.com of Vienna, Va., where he was vice president of product development.

* Mellon Financial Corp. of Pittsburgh has named Charles J. Poznek Jr. director of marketing for its Mellon HBV Alternative Strategies subsidiary. Mr. Poznek, 42, will work in New York. He previously was managing director in charge of marketing and investor relations for The Palladin Group LP, a hedge fund manager in Maplewood, N.J.

* Leerink Swann & Co. of Boston has signed on two new analysts. William Tanner, 44, has been named managing director-analyst, equity research, and will specialize in the biotechnology sector. He previously was managing director and biotechnology analyst at SG Cowen Securities Corp. of New York. Bruce Cranna has been named director-analyst, equity research, and will specialize in diversified medical supply and diagnostic companies. Mr. Cranna, also 44, comes to Leerink from Chicago’s ABN AMRO Inc., where he was director and senior analyst in capital markets.

* Allfirst Financial Inc. of Baltimore has appointed Robert Bradley, 51, vice president and relationship manager in its wealth management group. Mr. Bradley, who will work out of Harrisburg, Pa., previously was vice president and senior trust sales officer at M&T Investment Group of Buffalo, N.Y.

* A.G. Edwards & Sons Inc. of St. Louis has named Peter M. Miller head of its sales and marketing division. Mr. Miller, 44, is senior vice president and Eastern regional officer. He has been at the company since 1989 and was named to its board of directors in 1995. He replaces Benjamin F. “Tad” Edwards IV, 46, also a member of the board, who now heads the company’s Town and Country, Mo., branch. Earl D. Laing, 66, is retiring as senior vice president and regional officer for the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions. His responsibilities in the Mid-Atlantic region will be assumed by William R. Hatcher, 43, currently manager of the company’s offices in Beaufort and Charleston, S.C. Cecil B. “Buster” Wright III, 51, manager of the company’s Rome, Ga., branch, will head the Southeast region.

* UNX Inc. of New York has appointed Andrew M. Wilson senior managing director of sales and trading. Mr. Wilson, 32, previously was president of NYFIX Transaction Services Inc. of Stamford, Conn.
