Commonwealth adviser arrested in child prostitution sting operation
Nathan Duane Oeming allegedly responded to an ad posted by a detective posing as a 15-year-old girl
Police in Eugene, Ore., have arrested a Commonwealth Financial Network adviser for allegedly soliciting a teenage girl for sex.
According to a police report, Nathan Duane Oeming, 40, responded to an online post created by a special investigations detective identifying as a 15-year-old girl as part of a child-prostitution sting operation.
When Mr. Oeming arrived to meet her near a local high school, he was arrested by a school resource officer and the special investigations unit, according to the report.
Mr. Oeming has been charged with online sexual corruption of a child in the first degree.
Commonwealth terminated Mr. Oeming’s affiliation with the firm Wednesday as a result of the arrest, a spokesperson for Commonwealth said in an email.
Local Eugene newspaper The Register-Guard noted Mr. Oeming was a prominent member of the community, volunteer youth basketball coach and advisory member on the finance committee of Kids FIRST, a nonprofit organization helping child victims.
Mr. Oeming has been a registered broker since 2004, according to BrokerCheck. He began at Citigroup Global Markets before moving to Morgan Stanley in 2009.
In 2010, he moved his $500 million AUM book of business to D.A. Davidson, according InvestmentNews’ Advisers on the Move database. Mr. Oeming moved to Commonwealth in 2013.
Mr. Oeming could not be reached by InvestmentNews. The website and Facebook page for his firm, The Oeming Group, have both been taken offline.
