* Marsh & McLennan Cos. in New York has elected Jeffrey W. Greenberg, 47, as president. He succeeds A.J.C. Smith, 64, who plans to retire next year. Mr. Smith will continue to serve as director of the insurance brokerage, parent company of Putnam Investments.

* ND Holdings in Minot, N.D., has named Jim Maxson, 51, director and trustee of Integrity Mutual Funds and Ransom Managed Portfolios. Mr. Maxson, a partner at the Minot law firm of Farhart Lian & Maxson, replaces Arthur Link, who has retired.

* Datek Online Holdings Corp. in Iselin, N.J., has appointed Edward J. Nicoll, 45, president of Datek Online Brokerage Services Corp., a subsidiary. Mr. Nicoll is a co-founder of Waterhouse Investor Services in New York. He most recently was chairman of Wall Street Connect LLC, a voice recognition technology firm.

* Trevor Stewart Burton & Jacobsen Inc.,

a New York investment company, has appointed Stephen H. Slack, 56, senior vice president and national sales director. Mr. Slack served as East Coast and regional sales manager for the Delaware Financial Group in Philadelphia.

* Quote.com, a Mountain View, Calif., provider of online financial information, has named Robert Honeycutt, 35, president and chief executive. He comes from Barra Inc. in Berkeley, Calif., where he was chief operating officer. As CEO, he succeeds founder Chris Cooper, 48, who will continue to help develop products and technology.

* Island ECN Inc., an alternative trading system based in New York, has appointed Cameron Dovi Smith, 33, general counsel and Joseph C. Dwyer, 33, chief financial officer. Mr. Smith served as senior counsel in the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations. Most recently, Mr. Dwyer was business unit manager for short-term bonds and San Juan capital markets for Salomon Smith Barney Inc. in New York.

* Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin, a Los Angeles-based international investment bank, has named James L. Massey, 42, a director. Mr. Massey, a senior vice president, manages the Dallas office.

Jeffrey S. Tarbell, 30, was named vice president of the San Francisco office. Most recently he was a San Francisco-based principal of Willamette Management Associates in Chicago.

* Carter Financial Management in Spring, Texas, has appointed N. Cameron Woolverton III, 37, vice president of its Texas branch. Mr. Woolverton is president of Financial Solutions in Houston and chairman of the Houston Society of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners.

* Transwestern Group LLC in Chicago has named Charles R. Hagen, 49, chief operating officer and Caron Shore, 48, chief administrative officer. Mr. Hagen served as vice president and chief accounting officer for Charles E. Smith Commercial Realty LP and Charles E. Smith Residential Realty Inc. in Washington. Most recently, Ms. Shore was senior vice president, risk management.

* Aquila Tax-Free Fund for Utah in New York has named R. Matthew Tullis, 29, portfolio manager. Mr. Tullis worked in a similar capacity for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City. He is a vice president of Zions First National Bank, the fund’s subadviser.

* Innovest Strategic Value Advisors Inc., an investment advisory firm in New York, has appointed Frank Dixon, 40, managing director of research and development. Most recently, he was a senior consultant to the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alto, Calif.

* Alpine Management and Research LLC in New York has named Robert W. Gadsden, 42, senior real estate analyst. He had been a vice president of the Prudential Realty Group in Parsippany, N.J.

* Bessemer Trust Co., a New York adviser to institutions and wealthy individuals, has tapped its chief operating officer, Donald J. Herrema, 46, to succeed chief executive John R. Whitmore, 65, who is retiring after 24 years as head of the firm. Mr. Herrema joined Bessemer, which manages $20 billion, five years ago from the private banking group at Wells Fargo & Co.

* Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. in New York has named J. William Anderson, 40, Taylor S. Bodman, 37, and Ronald J. Hill, 46, as partners. Mr. Anderson was appointed chief information officer in 1998. Mr. Bodman joined the firm in 1983 and is responsible for its overall operation. Mr. Hill is director of research and investment strategy.

* Putnam Investments in Boston has named Avinash Persaud, 32, to the executive committee as a managing director and head of currency. He had been senior vice president and global head of foreign exchange and commodity research at J.P. Morgan & Co. in New York.

* Rowlette Executive Search of Dublin, Ohio, which specializes in the securities industry, has appointed Gary Baird, 47, a vice president. Mr. Baird worked in a similar capacity at the Ohio Co. in Columbus.

* MacKay Shields Financial Corp. in New York has appointed Richard A. Rosen, 40, senior portfolio manager of the value equity group. He had been a managing director at Prudential Investments Inc. in Newark, N.J.

* Joseph Littlejohn & Levy in New York has named Anthony Grillo, 43, a general partner. Mr. Grillo had been senior managing director of the Blackstone Group in New York.

* Alliance Capital Management LP in New York has named Mark J. Cunneen, 38, N. Kumar Kirpalani, 45, Bruce K. Arnow, 32, and Samantha S. Lau, 26, to its small-cap growth portfolio team. Most recently, the group’s members operated out of Boston and managed small-cap growth stocks for Invesco Inc.

* National Association of Financial Wholesalers in Westerville, Ohio, has appointed Steven Daris, 32, as executive director. He had been a regional sales consultant at Safeco Asset Management in Seattle.
