A.T. Kearney Executive Search in Chicago has added three vice presidents to its financial institutions practice in New York. Steve McPherson, 62, Clawson Smith, 59, and Frank Carr, 43, join the company from TMP/LAI Worldwide. Mr. McPherson and Mr. Smith have joined the company as managing director and co-manager, respectively, in the asset management group. Mr. McPherson had been senior partner at LAI Worldwide and Mr. Smith a partner. Mr. Carr will serve as managing director in the asset management group. He had been a principal at LAI Worldwide.

Waddell & Reed Financial Inc. in Overland Park, Kan., has named Thomas W. Butch, 42, senior vice president and chief marketing officer and executive vice president of Waddell & Reed Inc. He had been president of Stein Roe Mutual Funds in Chicago.

Security Investment Co. in Kansas City, Mo., has made the following appointments: J. Peter Gattermeir, 59, executive vice president; Sandra L. Carvajal, 34, senior vice president; Daniel M. Ellefson, 41, director of research; Dennis Hudson, 65, vice president of the private client group; Jennifer L. Maurer, 27, director of corporate services; and Kathleen P. Russell, 30, manager of operations.

Mr. Gattermeir had been senior member of the institutional sales and research department of George K. Baum & Co. in Kansas City, where Ms. Carvajal was vice president, institutional sales, Ms. Maurer a member of the corporate services team, Ms. Russell research administrator and Mr. Hudson a broker. Mr. Ellefson was senior vice president and director of research for Stifel Nicolaus & Co. in St. Louis.

Thomson Financial ESG in Boston has appointed Adam Bryan, 33, chief operating officer. Gordon Scott, 33, formerly head of sales for Thomson Financial ESG Asia Pacific, will succeed Mr. Bryan as managing director for the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Bryan will continue on the company’s global management committee.

DiMeo Schneider & Associates LLC in Chicago has named Kevin M. Kaiser, 26, analyst. He worked in the shareholder development department at Stein Roe & Farnham Inc. in Chicago.

KPMG LLP in New York has appointed William K. Thomas, 33, partner in charge of its world-class finance consulting practice. He has been with KPMG since 1995, most recently serving as national practice lead with Hyperion Software.

SunAmerica Capital Services in New York has hired Michael Maghini, 41, as senior vice president and national sales manager for wirehouses.

He had been senior vice president of the portfolio group for Travelers in Hartford, Conn.

Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Horsham, Pa., has promoted James B. McElwain, 48, to vice president of broker-dealer sales from assistant vice president of broker-dealer marketing.

Reserve Funds in New York has promoted Michael Sheridan, 33, senior portfolio manager and director.from tax-exempt fundmanager.

Castle Harlan Inc., a merchant bank in New York, has named Jonathan I. Mark, 45, senior managing director. He had been director of the Private Equity Group at Bain & Co. Inc. in Boston.

Shaker Investments Inc. in Cleveland has appointed James R. Janetz, 52, executive vice president and chief operating officer. He had been managing director of the FMS Group in Blue Bell, Pa.

The Board of Examiners of the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards in Denver has elected Peter H. Calfee, 48, chairman. He is president of Calfee Financial Advisors Inc. in Cleveland.
