H. Beck Inc. of Bethesda, Md., has hired Scott C. Thorson, 54, as executive vice president and chief operating officer of Capital Financial Inc., an affiliate.

Mr. Thorson is responsible for administrative and operating functions. Previously, he was vice president of operations at Securian Financial Services Inc. in St. Paul, Minn.

Sharon L. Scibek, 62, also has been hired as vice president of human resources.

She is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to managers and staff members in the human resources department. Previously, she was head of human resources at Econometrica in Bethesda.

Invesco PowerShares of Chicago has hired Dan Draper, 44, as managing director of global exchange-traded funds.

He is responsible for overseeing the company’s U.S. ETF business and building the firm’s profile around the world.

Previously, Mr. Draper was global head of Zurich-based Credit Suisse AG’s ETF business in London.

IEP Financial of Tampa, Fla., has hired Paul Richardson, 61, as vice president of business development.

He is responsible for providing business development support to broker-dealers, registered investment advisers and financial advisers.

Previously, Mr. Richardson was regional president of Cabot Lodge Securities LLC in Tampa.

Convergent Wealth Advisors of Los Angeles has hired Stephanie Zaffos, 39, as director of trust and estate planning.

She is responsible for supporting ultrahigh-net-worth clients.

Previously, Ms. Zaffos was of counsel in the tax-and wealth-planning practice group at Venable LLP in Los Angeles.

Market Street Trust Co. of Corning, N.Y., has hired Christian Girts, 40, as director of client services.

He is responsible for financial and estate planning, managing high-net-worth client relationships and advising clients on fiduciary issues.

Previously, Mr. Girts was a financial adviser with Wells Fargo Advisors in Scranton, Pa.

RiverNorth Capital Management LLC of Chicago has made two hires.

Chris Lakumb, 39, has been hired as a portfolio strategist in Santa Rosa, Calif., and will be a liaison between the company’s portfolio managers and investor base. Previously, he was a wealth management specialist at EverBank of San Francisco.

Paul Raskin, 29, is joining as a software developer in Chicago. His duties include monitoring data operations and developing proprietary trading systems.

Previously, Mr. Raskin wrote futures and option trading applications at R.J. O’Brien & Associates LLC in Chicago.

True North Advisors LLC of Dallas has hired Keith Watts, 47, as senior vice president for wealth management and business development.

He will oversee the firm’s wealth management and business development teams, and serve on True North’s management committee.

Previously, Mr. Watts was a managing director and national sales manager at Highland Capital Management LP in Dallas.

Securities America Inc. of La Vista, Neb., has promoted Roger Verboon, 53, to director of practice succession and acquisition, from senior practice management consultant.

He will educate financial advisers and broker-dealers about business continuity, succession and acquisition planning.

Guinness Atkinson Asset Management of Woodland Hills, Calif., has hired Jonathan Waghorn, 40, as co-portfolio manager of the Guinness Atkinson Global Energy Fund in London.

He is responsible for providing company modeling and screening of the global energy sector, with the goal of raising the awareness and market share of the fund.

Previously, Mr. Waghorn was co-portfolio manager of the Investec Global Energy Fund in London.

The Financial Planning Association of Denver has hired David Brand, 59, as director of strategic operations.

He will oversee the implementation of the association’s business plan and be involved in policy issues that affect the FPA.

Previously, Mr. Brand was president of Brand Consulting in Boulder, Colo.

The Bank of Tampa (Fla.), has hired Scott Fleming, 49, as executive vice president and managing director of wealth management.

He is responsible for investment advisory and trust services.

Previously, Mr. Fleming was a senior vice president and complex manager at Wells Fargo Advisors in Orlando, Fla.

Triad Advisors Inc. of Atlanta has promoted Roger Greenway, 63, to senior vice president of the business operations group, from vice president of technology in Norcross, Ga.

He is responsible for daily back-office operations, technology and the adviser hiring process.

Previously, Mr. Greenway was vice president of wealth investment management and manager for adviser desktop technology at SunTrust Investment Services Inc. in Atlanta.

U.S. Bank Wealth Management has hired Carlo Gozzi, 31, as a wealth management consultant for The Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank in Chicago.

He is responsible for developing financial strategies for high-net-worth individuals and families.

Previously, Mr. Gozzi was a vice president and branch manager for U.S. Bank’s Consumer Bank in Chicago.

Meanwhile, U.S. Bank Wealth Management has hired Frank DeBlasi, 36, as a wealth management adviser for The Private Client Reserve of U.S. Bank in Phoenix.

He will develop tailored wealth management strategies for clients, including a focus on private banking, and trust and investment planning.

Previously, Mr. DeBlasi was a senior vice president and private banker for J.P. Morgan Private Bank in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Litman Gregory Asset Management LLC of Larkspur, Calif., has hired Jason Steuerwalt, 35, as a senior research analyst in Orinda, Calif.

His responsibilities include performing due diligence on alternative investments and credit managers.

Previously, Mr. Steuerwalt worked in the credit and absolute-return research group at Hall Capital Partners LLC in San Francisco.

Madison Wealth Management of Washington has hired Dawn Doebler, 48, as a senior wealth adviser.

She is responsible for providing financial planning and wealth management services to high-net-worth individuals and their families, as well as any associated charitable and business interests.

Previously, Ms. Doebler was vice president and senior wealth manager at Ferguson Asset Management in Potomac, Md.

Mariner Wealth Advisers of Leawood, Kan., has hired Robert Swift, 61, as senior vice president of trust and estate planning.

He is responsible for expanding the firm’s trust and estate-planning divisions.

Previously, Mr. Swift worked as senior vice president and trust manager at Colorado State Bank and Trust in Denver.

LLBH Private Wealth Management of Westport, Conn., has hired Jeff Fuhrman, 43, as chief operating officer and chief financial officer.

He is responsible for managing the company’s financial management, operations, technology and marketing efforts.

Previously, Mr. Fuhrman was president and chief operating officer of IMG Artists in New York.
