* Fidelity Investments Institutional Brokerage Group in Boston has named J. Peter Benzie executive vice president of its…

* Fidelity Investments Institutional Brokerage Group in Boston has named J. Peter Benzie executive vice president of its correspondent broker-dealer division.

Mr. Benzie, 53, is a 26-year veteran of the financial services industry. He has been with Fidelity since 1996, recently as executive vice president of its private-wealth-management group. In his new position, he will have direct management responsibility for Fidelity’s correspondent broker-dealer sales and relationship management organizations, and overall accountability for the results of the correspondent business line. Before working at Fidelity, Mr. Benzie was chief executive officer of the national retail investment business with Chase Manhattan Investment Co.

Also, Fidelity has added to its sales team four regional vice presidents and a sales executive.

John Duffy, 40, will co-manage the New York and New Jersey territories. Prior to working at Fidelity, he was vice president of sales in the Northeast and Midwest regions for Fiserv Securities Inc. of Philadelphia and also served as national sales manager and vice president of sales at the Reserve Funds.

Darren Lopes, 41, will cover the Southeast. He was a sales specialist at Fidelity Investments Institutional Services Co. Before joining Fidelity, he was vice president and relationship manager in Boston with GMAC Mortgage Corp.

Brenda Swenson, 42, will cover the Northwest. She joins Fidelity from First Clearing Corp. of Richmond, Va., where she was vice president and regional manager of sales in the Western region.

Christina Sandy, 42, will cover the Southwest region. She was responsible for correspondent sales in the company’s New York region. She previously served as principal and director of marketing with Montgomery Correspondent Services in San Francisco, a division of Banc of America Securities.

Brent Honea, 32, has been named a sales executive in the West. He was vice president and correspondent sales manager with Wedbush Morgan Securities Inc. of Los Angeles.

* Royal Alliance Associates Inc. in New York has named Arthur Tambaro, 60, executive vice president in charge of operations. He oversees brokerage services, the equity and fixed-income trading desks, mutual fund trading and back-office systems. Mr. Tambaro has been a member of the senior management team and leader of the operations department at the Sun America Inc. subsidiary since 1990. Earlier, he was an examiner with the New York Stock Exchange.

* Credit Suisse First Boston Corp. in New York has named Rob Kepler, 43, director and head of technical analysis for the United States. Mr. Kepler’s responsibilities will include the creation of a new technical analysis product for the global foreign exchange group to support the growth of its client franchise. He will also work with the fixed-income technical analysis team to market the entire product range in the Americas.

Mr. Kepler was with Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in New York for eight years as chief technical analyst in fixed income.

* Bank Leumi USA in New York has promoted Hillel Waxman, 47, to senior vice president and head of international private banking. Mr. Waxman has been with Israel’s Leumi Group for 21 years, most recently in treasury management, where he oversaw foreign exchange and trading activities. Mr. Waxman’s new responsibilities will include expanding the international private-banking department that specializes in dealing with wealthy clients who are active investors in all global marketplaces.

Also, the bank has appointed Philip S. Dobkin, 53, vice president and manager of its treasury operations department. He will also assume the role of operations principal for Bank Leumi USA’s broker-dealer subsidiary, Leumi Investment Services Inc.

Mr. Dobkin was operations executive at Republic New York Securities Corp., where he was responsible for managing the operating, trading and marketing groups.

* ING Furman Selz Asset Management LLC in New York has named Jean-Philippe Carriol, 30, managing director for its alternative-asset-management group.

He will focus on the marketing and distribution of the firm’s alternative-investment strategies to U.S. and international clients.

Mr. Carriol was a managing director with West Broadway Partners in New York, where he was responsible for marketing risk arbitrage and convertible bond arbitrage funds.

* Mutual Service Corp. in West Palm Beach, Fla., has appointed Christopher McDaniel, 34, senior vice president and chief technology officer. He will be responsible for all technology functions and provide leadership to joint technology projects undertaken by the Pacific Life Network of broker-dealers. He was vice president of technology services at Ocwen Financial Services in West Palm Beach.

* JPMorgan Private Bank in San Francisco has appointed Zachary W. Hulsey senior investment banking executive of JPMorgan H&Q, a unit of J.P. Morgan Securities Inc.

Mr. Hulsey, 42, came to Hambrecht & Quist, a predecessor firm, in 1993 and has held several leadership roles within the firm’s investment banking business. Recently, he organized and led JPMorgan H&Q’s West Coast venture capital coverage effort within the firm’s technology investment banking group. He also served as co-head of H&Q’s renowned Internet practice and, prior to that, served as head of the firm’s private-placement group. Mr. Hulsey began his banking career in 1991 as a vice president with J.P. Morgan & Co.’s private bank in New York.

* New York Life Insurance Co. has appointed executive vice president Phillip J. Hildebrand, 49, chief distribution officer for the company’s life and annuity business unit. He will oversee the operations of New York Life’s two primary distribution channels: its career agency distribution system and its Kansas City, Mo.-based brokerage operation. Mr. Hildebrand, a chartered life underwriter, has led New York Life’s agency operations for four years.

The company also has named David A. Chalfin, 41, a vice president in the mergers-and-acquisitions department.

Mr. Chalfin joined the legal department of New York Life in 1996. He was responsible for mergers and acquisitions, asset-backed securities, and derivatives. He was promoted to assistant general counsel in 1997 and to associate general counsel in 1999. Earlier, Mr. Chalfin was a corporate lawyer with Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.

* Wall Street Access in New York has appointed Gene Mancinelli managing director and head of fixed-income trading. Mr. Mancinelli, 40, was head of fixed-income trading at Investec Ernst & Co., a New York correspondent clearing firm. Mr. Mancinelli brings 15 years’ fixed-income experience to his new position, and will be charged with building out Wall Street Access’ retail and institutional fixed-income services.

* MetLife Inc. in New York has named Nadine O. Vogel, 38, vice president of marketing for its MetLife Financial Services division.

Ms. Vogel joined MetLife in 1987 and is currently responsible for customer segmentation management, which encompasses MetLife’s death claim delivery system and special-needs program, and oversight of the company’s retained-asset account. She also will have responsibility for partnering with MetLife Bank to market its products and services to retail customers.

In 1998, Ms. Vogel founded MetDESK, MetLife’s Division of Estate Planning for Special Kids, to extend MetLife’s traditional commitment to public service to families of children with special needs.

MetDESK is committed to helping families through the maze of legal and financial complexities surrounding planning for the future of a child or dependent with special needs.

* GoldK in Waltham, Mass., has appointed Gary P. Brady, 49, assistant vice president and senior Employee Retirement Income Security Act counsel. Mr. Brady was the lead attorney and director of retirement regulatory consulting for John Hancock Retirement Services in Boston. He served as Erisa and tax counsel, and supervised a staff of 15 comprising Erisa attorneys and retirement plan compliance specialists.

* Atlas Venture in Boston has named Robert P. Badavas chief operating officer and a principal in the firm. Mr. Badavas has worked closely with Atlas Venture for a decade, holding senior positions in two Atlas Venture portfolio companies.

Mr. Badavas, 48, was president and CEO of Cerulean Technology in Marlborough, Mass., a provider of wireless mobile software to public safety agencies.

Atlas also has made Jay Shiveley, 44, a principal in the Menlo Park, Calif., office. He has 22 years’ experience building enterprise software companies, including four startups, into public corporations. Recently, he was senior vice president of Worldwide Field Operations with Vitria Technology in Boston.

* Banc of America Capital Management in Charlotte, N.C., has named Lori Ensinger, 39, managing director of value strategies and Diane Sobin, 39, senior portfolio manager, for a new value strategies team. Both will work in New York.

Ms. Ensinger has been managing director of institutional large-cap-value strategies with Zurich Scudder Investments in New York, and Ms. Sobin was a large-cap-value portfolio manager with Zurich Scudder.
