Create a financial literacy course
It is a high priority — enough so that it is a part of our 2030 Vision. We have created a financial literacy course for our internal team, to make sure that the staff that is not part of the professional financial planning team is educated on basic financial planning concepts for their own lives, and have the ability to meet with a financial planner (one of our own, or someone outside of the firm) to meet their personal financial planning needs. In addition, we are highly committed to meeting the financial literacy needs of the community in which we work and serve our clients. We have partnered with several non-profit organizations in our community to provide pro bono financial planning for those they serve (Community Housing Network and HAVEN to name a couple) and are currently working with Junior Achievement to bring basic financial literacy to high school students in the Detroit and Southfield, Michigan schools. We have also done mentoring with Southfield high school students about financial planning as a career and would like to continue that work.
