E*Trade Securities LLC has introduced a tool on its website to give self-directed investors investment guidance and offer a recommended asset allocation.
The tool, called Online Advisor, is free.
Investors answer a series of questions providing information about risk tolerance, time horizon and general investing preferences. The tool collects the information and provides an asset allocation. The investor receives a chart indicating the mix of fixed income, stocks and cash that matches their goals.
“Ahead of the summer season, many investors are reassessing their financial portfolios,” Michael Curcio, president of E*Trade Securities, said in a statement.
If the investor has an E*Trade brokerage account, the tool compares that recommendation with what they already have invested. The customer can also make changes to their investment allocation online, get help from an E*Trade adviser or save the recommendation to review at another time.
“We’re seeing a lot of investors coming from full-service firms who still need guidance but are looking to take more control of their investments,” Liat Rorer, vice president of product management at E*Trade, wrote in an email. “Our tools are aimed at giving investors the independence they want and the support they need, with education being a core component.”
E*Trade Securities LLC is based in New York.
