Explaining finance to the youngest readers
Picture books about money are as rare as first-graders’ front teeth: Children learn best by counting and sorting concrete items like blocks. The ability to grasp budgeting, saving and planning arrive in mid-elementary school when children master related concepts like time. That means that financial literacy books for first- and second-graders have to be both literal and imaginative. A few authors have managed to hit that sweet spot.
